Appointed Person (Lifting Operations)

Suitable for -

Managers and supervisors who have responsibility for lifting operations. Candidates should have sufficient knowledge and experience ofcrane operations and slinging in order to meet the requirements specified in British Standard 7121 – Safe Use of Cranes. There should be strict selection criteria applied as the Appointed Person is a highly responsible role.

The aim of the course is -

To provide candidates with knowledge and understanding of BS7121 – Safe Use of Cranes and the roles and responsibilities of the Appointed Person.

Course Content

  • Legislation and Codes of Practice
  • The roles and responsibilities of the Appointed Person
  • Safe systems of work (including Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
  • Personal responsibilities of all personnel involved in a lifting operation
  • Cranes: types and terminology
  • Crane documentation
  • Crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
  • British Standard 7121 – Safe Use of Cranes
  • Lifting accessories – types and uses
  • Inspection, examination and maintenance
  • Planning and carrying out a lift

The course is a mixture of theoretical instruction and practical simulation & demonstration.

Course Objectives -

On successful completion of this course, candidates will have sufficient knowledge and understanding of BS7121 – Safe Use of Cranes, the roles and responsibilities of the Appointed Person and the practical skills to enable the safe planning and execution of lifting activities.

Venue - Either on-site at clients’ premises or at ITS Training Centre

Duration - 3 Days
