The aim of the course is -

This course is designed to give candidates an awareness and understanding of the possible dangers when dealing with underground apparatus, such as buried services and utilities and to provide instruction in the safe use of cable avoidance tools and equipment.

  • The Law – Current Health & Safety Regulations and Legislation
  • Identification of different types of underground apparatus
  • Cable avoidance tools and equipment
  • Identifying hazards and the implications of potential risks
  • Colour coding of utility services
  • Utility service drawings
  • Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
  • Marking the ground
  • Digging trial holes by hand

The course is a mixture of theory and practical training / exercises.

Course Objectives -

On successful completion of this course, candidates will have sufficient knowledge and practical skills to enable them to safely use cable avoidance tools and equipment. Candidates will also have an understanding of the hazards associated with underground services.
