The Importance of Asbestos Safety Awareness Training

A waste and recycling company has recently been fined £36,000 for repeatedly failing to provide asbestos awareness training for employees at a site in North Wales.

Why is asbestos a problem?

Large amounts of asbestos were used in new and refurbished buildings before 2000, and a large number of premises and older plant/equipment still contain asbestos.

Much of the asbestos will be hidden in the fabric of the building so is not immediately obvious.

When ACMs are damaged or disturbed they can release dangerous fibres which, if breathed in, can cause serious diseases.

Around 5000 people in Great Britain die every year from asbestos-related diseases as a result of past exposure, making asbestos the single greatest cause of work-related deaths.

Workers most likely to come into contact with asbestos containing materials (ACMs) are those in the construction, maintenance, refurbishment and related trades, such as:

At Independent Training Solutions Ltd, we can provide Asbestos Safety Awareness Training.

This course is designed to provide candidates with an awareness of likely sources of asbestos containing materials (ACMs), sufficient knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with working with asbestos-related products and to provide them with a knowledge and understanding of current relevant legislation.

On successful completion of this course, candidates will also understand the control measures essential to ensure safe systems of work whilst working with ACMs.

Feel free to call us on 01324 821000 or email Maureen@its-ltd.org to discuss any training requirements.
