Course Content

• The Law – Regulations, Legislation & Legal Responsibilities

• Asbestos – What is Asbestos? – Asbestos Types, Structure & Terminology

• Properties of Asbestos – Why was Asbestos used? Discussing the industrial properties that made Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s) so popular in the UK.

• Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s) – Where can Asbestos be found and how can we recognise it? A discussion around likely sources of Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s) and the daily duties carried out by candidates.

• Hazards and Risks – What harm Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s) can cause and how it causes harm.

• Safety & Control Measures – Safe Working Practices for dealing with Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s). Group discussion on task management, safety protocols, handling, storage and transportation of Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s).

The course is a mixture of presentations, DVD’s produced by HSE & CITB ConstructionSkills and group discussions around the asbestos essentials.

Course Objectives -

On successful completion of this course, candidates will have an understanding of current relevant legislation and the control measures essential to ensure safe systems of work whilst working with Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM’s).
