The aim of the course is -

This course is designed to train and assess candidates in the safe operation of portable chainsaws, including the safe use and correct procedures to be followed before, during and after operating a portable chainsaw.

Course Content

  • The Law – Regulations & Legislation  (including: The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 & The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999)
  • Types of Chainsaws
  • Chainsaw Characteristics
  • Chainsaw Safety Procedures
  • Built-in Safety Devices
  • Pre-Start Checks
  • Starting, Crosscutting, Stopping & Running Checks
  • Understanding and preventing the effects of vibration
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

The course is a mixture of theory and practical training / exercises.

Course Objectives -

On successful completion of this course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand current relevant legislation
  • Identify hazards and the precautions needed to overcome them
  • Operate safely with minimum risk of injury and/or damage to equipment and property

Venue - Either on-site at clients’ premises or at ITS Training Centre

Duration - 1 Day

Candidate Numbers - Up to 4 per course (novice operatives) | Up to 6 per course (experienced operatives)

Certification - ITS Certification
